# Write memos and documents with Claude

> Turn a saved run into a decision memo or a documented brief.

## Decision memo

Ask: "Write a decision memo from the latest run. We decide to go ahead with the pilot, the next action is to hire two recruiters, and we review on 31 March." Claude uses `create_decision_memo`, which needs four things: the run, the decision, the next action and a review date.

* **Audience:** `manager` gives the plain-language memo. `specialist` adds per-option statistics, the scope of the value-of-information figure and any declared dependencies.
* **A memo can only be written from a current run.** If the model changed after the run, the request is refused. Run again first.

## Documents

Each decision comes with standard documents, such as the decision brief, model documentation and an assumptions register.

| Ask | What Claude does |
| - | - |
| "What documents does this decision have?" | `list_documents`, with status and warnings |
| "Read the assumptions register." | `get_document`, the Markdown source and the version filled in from the current model and run |
| "Which figures can I insert?" | `list_document_components`, the values you can use as `{{tokens}}` |
| "Which templates exist?" | `list_document_templates` |
| "Create a brief from the standard template." | `create_document`. In `template` mode it fills the writing slots with defaults. In `ai` mode it drafts prose, when Claude is configured on the server |
| "Reword the second paragraph." | `update_document` replaces a **draft's** Markdown and keeps the old text as a revision |

> [!TIP]
>
> Figures in a document should always be **component tokens**, not typed numbers. Then they stay in step with the model when it changes. Ask Claude to "use tokens for every figure".

## Before you share

1. Make sure the run behind the memo is current.
2. Open the document in the browser and read it once.
3. Share it as described in [Share and manage access](https://docs.meerietechnology.com/tools/sharing.md).
